Fisk University is set to welcome Hollywood excellence to its spring stage as Academy Award-nominated actor Delroy Lindo has been announced as the keynote speaker for the university’s 152nd commencement ceremony. Known for his commanding performances across film, television, and theater, Lindo’s presence brings a blend of artistry, legacy, and cultural impact to one of the most anticipated moments of the academic year.

As graduates prepare to cross the stage, Lindo’s journey—from decades of acclaimed acting to earning one of the industry’s highest honors—offers a powerful source of inspiration. His address is expected to reflect on perseverance, purpose, and the importance of using one’s voice, aligning seamlessly with Fisk University’s longstanding tradition of producing leaders who shape culture and drive change.

Lindo recently earned an Academy Award nomination for his role as Delta Slim in the critically acclaimed film Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan and directed by Ryan Coogler. While Sinners introduced a new generation to his work, Lindo’s career spans more than five decades, beginning with his film debut in the 1976 Canadian comedy Find the Lady. A true veteran of the craft, he has delivered a range of culturally impactful performances that have solidified his place as one of the most respected actors in the industry. His filmography includes standout roles in Malcolm X, Crooklyn, Romeo Must Die, This Christmas, and Da 5 Bloods. Throughout his career, he has earned numerous honors, including NAACP Image Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Tony Award nomination.

Agenia Walker Clark, president of Fisk University, emphasized the significance of Lindo’s selection in a statement:

“Delroy Lindo’s career embodies the enduring power of a liberal arts education—one that cultivates artistry, intellect, and a lifelong commitment to craft. These are the very values we instill in Fisk students, and we are honored to welcome him to our campus community as we celebrate the Class of 2026 and the boundless futures ahead of them,” she said.

As the Class of 2026 prepares to take its next steps, Lindo’s presence serves as a powerful reminder of what it means to build a lasting legacy through passion and purpose. At Fisk University, where history and excellence intersect, this year’s commencement will not only celebrate achievement but also challenge graduates to carry their talents into the world with intention—continuing the university’s legacy of shaping voices that influence culture, storytelling, and change on a global stage.
