Lakresha Moultrie, the Vice President of Legal Affairs at Delaware State University, has been nominated to serve as the Secretary of the Delaware Department of Labor. Governor-elect Matt Meyer nominated Moultrie. Her long, vast legal and managerial experience will be a benefit in her new role with the state government.

In a recent press release, Governor-elect Meyer commended Moultrie on her past experience: “LaKresha brings a wealth of experience, passion, and a deep understanding of the challenges facing Delaware’s workers. She is a proven leader with a track record of empowering individuals, advocating for workers’ rights, and driving economic growth.”

Moultrie swiftly advanced through the ranks after starting as general counsel at Delaware State in 2019 to become vice president of legal affairs and chief enterprise risk officer, demonstrating her outstanding legal knowledge and leadership skills. She worked for almost ten years at the Delaware Department of Justice before joining Delaware State, where she was chief deputy attorney general at the end of her career.

Delaware State President Dr. Tony Allen says that he is confident in Moultrie’s future role, stating, “LaKresha is a tremendous leader of people… I know she will work tirelessly and effectively to advance Governor-elect Meyer’s priorities and to protect and expand the rights of Delaware workers and their families.”

Moultrie will be in charge of important Delaware Department of Labor operations in her new role, such as workforce development initiatives, worker safety, unemployment insurance, and labor relations. Her priorities are tackling employment gaps, especially in underprivileged neighborhoods; bolstering labor rights; and generating high-quality jobs.

The State Senate has yet to confirm Moultrie’s appointment, but it shows that the new administration is committed to supporting workforce development and promoting fair opportunities throughout the state.
