Tennis star Chris Eubanks and Congresswoman Nikema Williams have partnered with FICO for an upcoming financial literacy event for HBCU students in Atlanta. The event will take place November 22 at Clark Atlanta University in partnership with the CAU Office of Financial Literacy and the CAU School of Business. The Score A Better Future™ financial literacy event will be open to other Atlanta HBCUs, including Morris Brown College, Morehouse College, and Spelman College.

The goal of the event is to provide students the fundamental resources and credit knowledge they need to start their financial journeys with confidence. Chris Eubanks, a professional tennis player and Olympian, will host a clinic with the CAU tennis team and take part in an inspirational fireside chat that encourages students to take charge of their personal finances. The president of Clark Atlanta spoke about the university’s latest partnership.

“We are proud to collaborate with FICO to offer this critical workshop that empowers our students with the financial knowledge they need to succeed in their personal and future professional lives,” said George T. French, Jr., Ph.D., president of Clark Atlanta University. “Developing healthy financial habits early on is crucial in breaking down barriers and opening doors for young people. We thank FICO for providing our students with an opportunity to learn and prepare for a successful future.”

According to a recent FICO survey, less than half of Gen Z adults check their credit score, and almost one fourth of them don’t know where to check. Participating HBCU students will receive free information and resources from the workshop to support credit, budgeting, and financial planning education. Events like this are essential, as 28% of people lack the necessary knowledge needed to improve their understanding of credit.

Congressman Nikema Williams will join Eubanks to discuss financial literacy with students.

“Financial literacy is key to ensuring the economic mobility of young people, especially students at HBCUs. The FICO Score A Better Future program is an invaluable resource, equipping our future leaders with the skills they need to help manage their finances, build wealth, and achieve long-term success,” she said. “This initiative is a critical step in leveling the playing field and empowering the next generation of innovators and community leaders.”
