On November 14, Alcorn State University will honor distinguished alumnus Brian K. Johnson by dedicating its School of Business Auditorium in his name. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Dr. Rudolph E. Waters Classroom Building, highlights Johnson’s substantial contributions to his alma mater and his professional impact in business and insurance.
Alcorn State University President Dr. Tracy M. Cook expressed deep appreciation for Johnson’s influence on the university, stating, “I would like to extend my gratitude to Brian Johnson for his support and dedication to Alcorn State University. His impressive career in business and the insurance industry is a testament to the standards we want our future graduates to embody once they leave our institution.”
Similarly, Dr. Antwon D. Woods, dean of the School of Business, emphasized Johnson’s lasting legacy, stating, “Brian Johnson’s unwavering commitment to excellence in education and his ability to inspire students and colleagues alike has profoundly enriched our academic community. This recognition is a testament to his legacy, and we are proud to celebrate his achievements with the naming of this vital space, the Brian K. Johnson Auditorium.”
Currently serving as senior executive vice president at Fisher Brown Bottrell Insurance, Johnson’s career path has been marked by dedicated service and leadership in risk management and insurance. Beginning as a management development associate at Trustmark National Bank in 2006, he transitioned to FBBI in 2007, where he has played a critical role in providing advisory services for public entities, nonprofits, educational institutions, and various other sectors.
Johnson’s expertise has earned him consistent recognition, including a six-year streak as one of Insurance Business Magazine’s Top 100 Insurance Brokers in America. The Mississippi Business Journal also named him a Top 50 Under 40 Leading Business Leader, underscoring his influence and dedication to the industry.
Johnson, a strong advocate for HBCUs, emphasizes their value in higher education. “HBCUs have been a remarkable piece of American history and remain monumental in providing a quality education to leaders of today and tomorrow,” he said, underscoring his support for increased funding and financial responsibility within these institutions.
His commitment to giving back reaches beyond Alcorn, as he actively participates in organizations like St. Dominic’s Health Services Foundation and the USA International Ballet Competition. Additionally, Johnson is involved in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., the NAACP, and the Madison County Business League & Foundation, supporting initiatives that promote health, education, and civic engagement.
Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Alcorn and a Master of Business Administration from Jackson State University, embodying the educational foundation that he believes is crucial to shaping tomorrow’s leaders.
