As the 2000’s rolled on, HBCU players started to be drafted less and less. It wasn’t due to a lack of talent. The new millennium saw greats such as Robert Mathis, Shaq Leonard, Javon Hargrave, and Tarik Cohen drafted. 2015 saw the advent of the Celebration Bowl, meant to draw more attention to HBCU football and the talent that graced the football field.
Yet, it appeared that teams were unwilling to expend draft capital to selected HBCU talent. In 2021, we witnessed the sole year since 1950 when no HBCU player was chosen. Let’s finish our spotlight of the amazing HBCU talent that was drafted from 2001 to present day and hope that, this Spring, we will add even more talented HBCU prospects to this list..
