Prairie View A&M University is celebrating a record-breaking 9,893 students enrolled for the fall 2024 semester, surpassing the previous high of 9,516 set in 2018. This achievement marks a significant moment in the University’s history as it continues to grow in both student body size and commitment to academic excellence.
University officials attribute much of this enrollment success to the recently launched PV Cares initiative, a comprehensive support system designed to offer students the resources they need to thrive both academically and personally. Dr. Sarina Willis, PVAMU’s Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success, expressed her excitement about this milestone.
“We are excited to see that students from across the country continue to make PVAMU their institution of choice,” Dr. Willis said. “This record enrollment was a collaborative effort that truly took everyone on campus to make possible. As we begin our Journey to Eminence 2035, and to help solidify our commitment to excellence and strategically enhance our commitment to student success, we onboarded over 40 staff members to help create our PV Care Teams. They are making a tremendous difference.”
The PV Cares initiative has transformed the student experience at Prairie View by offering a wide range of personalized services. From academic advising to financial counseling, the program ensures students receive the guidance they need to navigate their academic journey successfully.
Each PVAMU student is assigned a Care Team, composed of professional academic advisors, career coaches, and financial counselors, who provide ongoing support throughout their time at the University. Academic advisors guide students through their course selections, help them connect with on-campus resources, and offer tailored support to improve academic outcomes. Career coaches assist students with career exploration, resume building, job search strategies, and soft-skills training to prepare them for the workforce. Financial counselors work with students on budgeting and financial literacy, ensuring they are financially prepared during their time at PVAMU and beyond.
“Every student at PVAMU has been assigned a Care Team that supports them throughout their matriculation,” Dr. Willis explained. “This team of new people, combined with the dedicated staff that have previously supported our students, gave 110% toward contacting and assisting our students as they enrolled for fall 2024.”
Achieving record enrollment is no small feat, and Dr. Willis emphasized that this success was made possible through the hard work and dedication of PVAMU’s faculty, staff, and administrators.
“As the VP of Enrollment Management and Student Success, I am excited to have the opportunity to lead our efforts as we grow the enrollment at PVAMU and to contribute to record-size enrollment,” she said. “The support and investment from our executive leadership were unmatched, positioning us to serve every student and family who selected PVAMU as their home away from home.”
With this historic enrollment number, Prairie View A&M University is well on its way to achieving its ambitious goals as part of its Journey to Eminence 2035 initiative. As PV Cares continues to evolve, the University aims to further enhance student success, and prepare students for the future.
