There has been another round of bomb threats at HBCUs for the second time in the past month. Earlier this week Alabama A&M University received a bomb threat from an anonymous source. Delaware State University, Towson University, and Morgan State University also received threats.
The threat came around 11 am Tuesday morning. The university sent out an alert saying to avoid the JF Drake LRC area on campus. “If you are not on campus,” the statement read, “please remain safe where you are.”
ClutchPoints received an email from Delaware State giving insight on the initial incident.
“Delaware State University received a bomb threat just before 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. University police are coordinating with state and federal law enforcement to investigate the threat and ensure the safety of all students, faculty, and staff. Out of an abundance of caution, the University is evacuating academic buildings, canceling classes for the remainder of the day, and sending all University employees home, except for essential personnel.”
The university then sent an official update on what occurred on Tuesday.
“Delaware State University police, in coordination with local, state, and federal authorities, have cleared campus buildings following a bomb threat that was received just before 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Campus will reopen as scheduled on Wednesday.”
Last month a string of HBCUs received bombs from anonymous sources. Institutions that received threats included Alabama State University and Virginia State University. Although they did not receive direct threats, Howard University and Spelman College closed campus as a precautionary measure. The threats have prompted prominent Black leaders to speak out and demand that justice be served.
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus, the NAACP, and Congress have spoken out against the string of threats and urged the FBI and Department of Justice to do a full investigation.
Many believe that these string of threats were an act of retaliation following the assassination of conservative Charlie Kirk during the September 10 rally at Utah Valley University.
